The Two Tinsmiths Name

Our property is situated in a rural farming area called Greenbushes. This was first settled in the mid 1800's as a farming, timber and mining area. In 1888 Tin was recorded as being founded in the area. The town boomed until 1893 when a world slump in the price of tin saw the local industry collapse.

Since then the areas population and productivity has fluctuated according to the demand and price of the metal. A census carried out in 1904 gives a fascinating insight in to a typical mining community at the turn of the century. There were 159 Miners who
were serviced by 9 storekeepers, 8 builders, 7 carpenters, solicitors mining agents, chemists, butchers, bakers, tailors, bootmakers, a blacksmith and Two Tinsmiths.

This small fragment of our local history was the source of the name we chose for our first series of Wines the 'Two Tinsmiths' which shows our appreciation of these true Australian pioneers.
